Roots & Renewal: Oxford, Bath, & the Cotswolds

Pilgrimage with Marilis Pineiro

@exnunontherun

September 20-28, 2026

$4,200 USD (plus air)

Walsingham add-on (+$700)

This pilgrimage moves through some of the most meaningful landscapes in England’s Catholic story – from St. John Henry Newman’s Oxford and the sacred springs of Bath to the Marian heart of Glastonbury and the holy village of Walsingham, England’s Nazareth.

These are places where the faith endured quietly and beautifully, often in hidden chapels and secret rooms, and where pilgrims have sought healing and renewal for centuries.

September is one of the most beautiful months to visit England. The days are warm and golden, summer crowds have faded, and the first touches of autumn soften the countryside. It’s a perfect season for walking, prayer, and discovery.

We will spend 3 nights in Oxford, 3 nights in Bath, 2 nights in the Cotswolds, and 2 nights in Walsingham.

Group size: Limited to 25 pilgrims.

Itinerary

Day 1: September 20th – Arrival in Oxford

Your pilgrimage begins as you arrive in Oxford and settle into your historic city-centre hotel. Gather for Mass at the Oxford Oratory, founded by St. John Henry Newman, before a gentle introduction to the city and a welcome dinner shared together.

Day 2: September 21st – Oxford

Begin the day with Mass at Littlemore, where Newman was received into the Catholic Church. Visit The Kilns, home of C.S. Lewis, and walk in the footsteps of Tolkien and Lewis through Oxford’s historic streets. Enjoy a classic afternoon tea, with the evening free to explore or rest.

Day 3: September 22nd – Oxford | Stonor Park

Travel into the Chiltern Hills to Stonor Park, a Catholic estate that quietly preserved the faith during the Reformation. Explore its chapel and priest-hole history, then stop at Dorchester Abbey, a place of Christian worship for over 1,400 years, before returning to Oxford.

Day 4: September 23rd – Oxford | Wells | Bath

Journey west, stopping at Baddesley Clinton, a moated manor with hidden priest holes. Continue to Wells to visit its beautiful medieval cathedral before arriving in Bath. Settle in and gather for a group dinner as the pilgrimage moves into a new landscape.

Day 5: September 24th – Bath

Celebrate Mass at St. John the Evangelist, the heart of Catholic life in Bath. Discover the Roman Baths and Bath Abbey, then step into Regency England at the Jane Austen Centre. Enjoy afternoon tea and a free evening to wander the city’s elegant streets.

Day 6: September 25th – Bath | Glastonbury

Travel to Glastonbury for Mass at the Shrine of Our Lady, reviving England’s ancient Marian devotion. Explore the ruins of Glastonbury Abbey and the Holy Thorn, reflecting on England’s earliest Christian roots, before returning to Bath.

Day 7: September 26th – Bath | The Cotswolds

Leave the city behind as you journey into the Cotswolds, passing through rolling countryside and storybook villages. Celebrate Mass locally and enjoy time to walk, reflect, or simply rest. Settle into a manor-style hotel surrounded by natural beauty.

Day 8: September 27th – The Cotswolds

Begin with Mass, followed by a visit to a historic castle. Enjoy a vineyard visit with time to savour the beauty of the countryside. Gather for a farewell dinner.

Day 9: September 28th – Departure

Depart for London, carrying home the friendships, memories, and quiet fruits of the pilgrimage.

Day 9 (Walsingham Add-On): Ely | Walsingham

If you choose to add-on the additional two nights in Walsingham, we travel northeast, stopping in Ely to visit Ely Cathedral and honor St. Etheldreda, one of England’s most beloved medieval saints. We’ll celebrate Mass at St. Etheldreda’s Catholic Church before continuing on to Walsingham.

Day 10: September 29th – Walsingham

Walk the Holy Mile from the Anglican Shrine to the Slipper Chapel for Mass. Spend the afternoon in prayer, reflection, and devotion at England’s ancient Marian shrine.

Day 11: September 30th – Departure #2

Depart for Heathrow Airport

And as always, we have a few special surprises planned.

Daily Mass will be celebrated throughout the pilgrimage, accompanied by a priest from the Divine Mercy Apostolate in the UK.

Is this pilgrimage for you?

You should be in good physical shape.

We’ll walk a fair bit each day – sometimes on cobblestones, sometimes on uneven abbey grounds, sometimes on country paths that might be wet. Expect gentle hills, stairs in old houses with no lifts, and standing during tours. It’s not strenuous, but you should feel steady on your feet and comfortable walking 3–4 miles throughout the day.

You must carry your own luggage.

Some of our hotels are historic properties and may not have elevators. We also do not have porters. A light packing list will be provided.

You need to be flexible.

England is beautiful, but it comes with surprises – quick weather changes, early abbey closures, and country lanes that get muddy after a rain. If you can roll with these things and enjoy the unexpected moments that make pilgrimages special, you’ll be fine. If you need everything perfectly predictable, this may not be the right fit.

Consider all of this before signing up.

If you enjoy exploring by foot, don’t mind English weather, and like a bit of adventure with your prayer and history, you’ll fit right in.
